Last week I attended a\u00a0town hall meeting\u00a0(THM)\u00a0with freshman Repesentative Randy Hultgren in Sandwich, and a second in Geneva.\u00a0 The third THM is in Yorkville on Aug. 29.\u00a0 See details at the end of this post.<\/p>\n \n\t\t

Question after question, the crowd pushed for Jobs-Jobs-Jobs!\u00a0 Many also called for a fair, progressive tax on the wealthiest of our society,\u00a0the card-carrying members\u00a0of the\u00a0millionaire and billionaire clubs.\u00a0 Others pushed more spcifically for H.R. 870<\/a>, the Humphrey-Hawkins 21st Century Full Employment and Training Act, a bill that imposes a speculation tax of .25% on Wall Street trading.\u00a0 The revenue would be used to create\u00a02.5 to\u00a010 million\u00a0jobs.<\/p>\n

  • The DeKalb County\u00a0Chronicle wrote, “Jobs top list of questions for Hultgren in Sandwich.”<\/a><\/li>\n
  • \u00a0The Beacon News headlined, “Constituents at Sandwich town hall session press Rep. Hultgren to tax the rich”<\/a><\/li>\n
  • The\u00a0Kane County Chronicle\u00a0headline was, “Hultgren hears from constituents seeking answers on jobs.”<\/a><\/li>\n

  • The Fox Valley Video News Service (VNS) produced a 13-minute piece covering the Geneva THM<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  • The Washington Post followed Randy Hultgren for a day or two and wrote\u00a0a piece titled, “Democrats\u2019 road tour strikes back at GOP\u2019s stand against raising taxes.”\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n

    Most\u00a0Democratic\u00a0Party insiders were in Springfield for Democrats Day during the THM’s; leaving Hultgren to answer questions from concerned citizens and the “intelligent left.”\u00a0 The effort to get people to town hall meetings to push Hultgren to take the unemployment crisis seriously was coordinated by MoveOn.org<\/a>, Northern Illinois Jobs With Justice<\/a> and several other groups.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    The conservative blog, Illinois Review, put their own spin on reality here<\/a>.\u00a0 The sharply biased Daily Herald <\/a>repeated everything Hultgren said because his answers would\u00a0more or less earn him an A+ on their political questionnaire.<\/p>\n

    More balanced reporting from the Geneva THM was available from the Beacon News,<\/a>\u00a0and Kane County Chronicle<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    Clearly, the Republicans are trying to turn people out to defend Hultgren.\u00a0 You could pick them out in the Geneva THM because they would simply stand up and say, “we support you Randy,” or “God bless America.”<\/p>\n

    There is only one town hall meeting left\u00a0at the\u00a0Yorkville City Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
